Who We Are
David M. Lenard, President
WebEditAsia's founder and president is David M. Lenard, Princeton University Class of '91. Mr. Lenard has lived in East Asia full-time since 1996. He has edited English documents for dozens of clients in South Korea, Vietnam and China in addition to serving as the China Business Editor and Business Editor of Asia Times Online in 2005-06. Mr. Lenard says: "In the past, I personally provided top-quality English documents to business customers in four different Asian countries. The purpose of WebEditAsia is to provide this same quality and speed on a much larger scale, by recruiting top editors from overseas, organizing them into dedicated client-specific teams and using the same quality assurance system that is used by top English-language publications."
Editorial Staff
WebEditAsia currently has an editorial staff of about 80 people; this gives us a potential editing capacity of 200,000 words per day, enough to handle very large commercial jobs. All WebEditAsia editors are native speakers of English with previous professional-level editing experience. Unlike some of our competitors, WebEditAsia only hires professional editors: not writers moonlighting as editors; second-language English speakers, or English teachers with little or no editing experience.
Our superb editors have been employed by media outlets as diverse as the Associated Press, Asia Times Online, the Shanghai Daily, the South China Morning Post, the Toronto Globe and Mail, Reuters, Random House, Doubleday, Interfax, the Hong Kong Standard, and many others. Past business clients of our staff include Intel, Johnson & Johnson, Four Seasons Hotels, Dow Chemical, UNICEF, Coca-Cola, Ford Motor Co., Hewlett-Packard, United Parcel Service (UPS), Nortel, Nike, Samsung, CEIBS, and McDonald's. In some cases, WebEditAsia editors have literally decades of editing experience.
Finally, WebEditAsia editors are very familiar with English as it is written by Chinese native speakers, particularly the mistakes most commonly made by Chinese when writing English. This familiarity makes it easier for them to quickly correct such errors.
Translation Staff
Primary translation, for clients who require it, is provided by translators based in Shanghai. WebEditAsia has the same hiring policy for translators that we have for editors: only individuals with previous professional-level translating experience are eligible for employment. Our translators are matched with specific clients according to their previous experience and work consistently with the same client so that, over time, the quality of their primary translation improves. |
